The Chipola River Canoe Trail begins at the Florida Caverns State Park (canoe rental is 16 dollars for half day), trail flows through river swamps and hardwood forests of beech, magnolia, oak and dogwood.

I have taken 3 hikes along river from the boat ramp area above Marianna. First in August of 06, next in October of 06 and recently in June of 07, saw seasonal differences in flowers blooming. Saw this flower my first trip and took a couple of pics, had never seen it before. Photos came out poor, my first experiment with taking pure white with no contrast to define flower inside flower. Thought a bird had dropped a seed in the forest and plant sprouted. Went back in October and could not find it, saw no flowers - not even the red and purple. I suspect September is the tail end of the blooming season.
