This flower was about 100 feet inland from the bank of river. I did not see it my last trip, possibly had not bloomed yet. I now belive the yellow part of plant are pods of spores or seeds. End of blooming season wind may blow seeds and a new plant comes up next year.
Footnote .... after completeing album and uploading photos and pages, I still did not know what kind of flower this was. I emailed Michael Abrams and he replied back that it was an Alligator Lily. The following offsite pages may be helpful: tips for wildflower identification, explanation of horticulture terms and a plant glossary. This flower is a member of the Amaryllis family. I placed a footnote on this page because photo best shows the stamens (pollen is produced). Dialogue continued in photo 10.
