The lighthouse was about 100 yards inland from the gulf shoreline. A hurricane (Charley or Ivan) from the 2004 season had devasted the area. Beach was still fenced off and pvc pipe left in the area, massive effort to pump out the saltwater from the land. You can see remnants of an orange rubber hose at right of photo. Vegetation was growing back, previously killed by the saltwater. Many palm trees had brown spots in the leaves, few remaining that were alive inland. Very windy and water choppy, photo of tide receding.
